Orly is the closer of the two main Paris airports: 14 km from the centre, against 25 km for Roissy. That proximity is misleading, because public transport access remains fragmented. Here, option by option, is what the Orly – Paris trip really involves.
Real journey time by hour
By car the route takes the A6 then the ring road. Off-peak, allow 30 minutes to the 6th or 7th arrondissement, 40 to 45 minutes towards northern Paris.
At busy hours the A6 and porte d'Italie slow considerably:
- 07:00 – 09:30: 45 to 70 minutes to the centre
- 10:00 – 15:00: 30 to 40 minutes, the best window
- 17:00 – 20:00: 50 to 75 minutes
- After 21:00: 25 to 35 minutes
Public transport options
Orlyval links the airport to Antony and the RER B: fast, but with a change and stairs. Tram T7 reaches Villejuif and metro line 7 — cheap but slow with suitcases. Buses (Orlybus, line 183) serve Denfert-Rochereau and porte de Choisy.
All of these work well with a cabin bag. With two suitcases, a stroller or a tired child, the equation changes entirely.
Taxi or private transfer
Paris taxis apply a regulated flat fare between Orly and Paris, differing by river bank. It remains a rank pick-up, with no greeting and no flight tracking.
A private transfer is booked ahead: the chauffeur tracks the flight, waits in arrivals with a name board, and the price is set before departure. It is the simplest option for late arrivals, heavy luggage or business travel.
